III. ENTRY RULES FOR PHOTOGRAPIC PRINTS CONTEST
1.
All images must be considered “Digital Realism”, where a photographer may perform any
enhancements and modifications that improve the presentation of the image to make it more closely
represent the original scene photographed but that does not change the truth of the original story.
Cropping and horizontal flipping (equivalent to reversing a slide) are acceptable modifications.
Removing spots due to dust on your sensors is allowed. Adding elements to your images, removing
pictorial elements from your image other than by cropping, combining separate images or rearranging
and/or cloning and/or copying elements in your image are not still acceptable and can lead to
disqualification of your image in the competition. Since HDR techniques and Helicon Focus
techniques are techniques that enhance the presentation without changing the pictorial content, they are
now considered allowable techniques. Please note that all adjustments must still look natural. Just
because a technique is legitimate does not guarantee the image it was used on will get a good score.
All process and enhancement of images, whether through digital or traditional photographic procedures
should be limited to image editing that compensates for limitations inherent in the photographic process,
such as:
Color balancing and correction
Dodging
Burning
Overall lightening or darkening
De-speckling
Focus adjustments
Corrections of lens distortions
Cropping
Any substantial change to the image should be avoided, such as adding, removing or moving of image
elements.
2. All photo entries must be a minimum print size of 8” x 10”. Maximum outside dimensions
including mat is 16” x 20”.
3. While a mat is not required all photo entries must be mounted on a firm backing. In order to have
the best presentation we recommend that your photo be mounted using foam core or gator board.
Because of the extreme temperatures in the display area it is highly recommended photographs be
mounted with an adhesive other than transparent tape.
4. NO FRAMED PICTURES OR PICTURES WITH A GLASS OR PLASTIC COVERING WILL
BE ALLOWED IN THE CONTEST. NO PHOTOGRAPHS WITH HOOKS OR SIMILAR
HANGING DEVICES WILL BE ALLOWED.
5. The exhibitors name, address, telephone number, and title of the photo must be listed on back top
left corner of the photo entry and on the entry tag. DO NOT PLACE ANY IDENTIFICATION
ON THE FRONT OF PHOTOGRAPHS. Do not place any printing such as quotations or titles on
the front of the image. If it is not part of the image as seen through the camera viewfinder then it
should not be there after printing.
6. No exhibitor may enter more than four (4) photos.
7. The Fair Committee reserves the right to refuse to show any photo it considers unsuitable.
8. Depending upon the total number of entries and available space for hanging, the Fair Committee
reserves the right to pre-judge and display selected photos in each division.
9. Only one photograph per mount.
10. Entries must be original work of the photographer.
11. No photographs of photographs or paintings and no computer generated photographs will
be accepted. Altering images utilizing a editing program such as Photoshop® should be limited
to the 8 items listed above. Creating one image from two utilizing layers is not acceptable.
12. Disclaimer: Because of the large number of entries some photographs are accepted during the
