I love photography but also have a few other interests….one of which is cooking.  I'll be honest.  I used to hate cooking. I was the one they used to ask to brink soda at a get together.  I'm not kidding.

Well, a couple of years ago…out of nowhere that changed.  All of a sudden I LOVED cooking.  I think it began with a love for cooking Thanksgiving dinner and just snowballed from there.

I found this recipe on allrecipes.com and loved it and wanted to share with you!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

Crumb Topping Mix

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners.
  2. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.
  3. To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.

I left out the cinnamon since I am not a huge fan of it.

As we continued on our walk through Summerville today, we found a wonderful art gallery on a charming little street closed for traffic allowing us to dine at tables in the street. We talked to two of the most lovely and kind artists, Lila Gray Cauthen and Victoria Platt Ellis. They could not have been more welcoming and entertaining.  I learned more about Summerville history in that 30 minutes than I have the 17 years that I have lived here.  They were so kind to take the time and share with us.  And, Lila Gray Cauthen just made my day when she thought my son and I were a couple. Did I mention that today is my birthday, and I turned 44 years old today?  What a birthday present that was!

I would want to move here.

Summerville, South Carolina has a charm all its own.  I've lived in this area for over 17 years and think it is South Carolina's best kept secret. But, shhhhhh, don't tell anyone. ;) The quiet, picturesque side streets with tables in the middle seem to say, "Welcome, come sit and enjoy. We've been waiting for you."

We have decided to try a new place to eat that is off the beaten path in Summerville every week or two.  Here are a couple that are top on our list…

Central Grille - I cannot wait to try it and will definitely post when I do.  It looked like the food would be fabulous and the atmosphere absolutely perfect.

Eva's Restaurant - I hear they have great Southern, home style cooking.

Guerin's Pharmacy - I am a sucker for nostalgic places.  I'm x years old and don't think I have ever been in a pharmacy quite like this.  It looks like it is exactly what I would imagine places like this to look from the 40s and 50s.  I wasn't born then, but from what I have seen on television, this would be it. I cannot wait to go back and try their hot dogs. Guerin's Pharmacy was featured on…

I also have to give a big thanks for the wonderful places that posted menus on their doors.  Some places were closed when we went walking, and we already had plans for dinner, but it was so nice to get teased a little by looking at the yummy menus on the doors.  Now we know where we want to go back and try very soon.

A Room with a View

img_9791-web-frame-3-450.jpg

Imagine looking out of your window and seeing this. There are so many beautiful places in the world that would make amazing views out of our windows.

The views in our life can be more than just pretty places. They can be special places. I would love to have an image from my brother's property where we used to fish and crab for years. It is a wonderful memory that we have of him. Or what about the place I grew up. It definitely wouldn't make it into a fancy magazine, but it is VERY special and full of memories to me. Let us always remember to take pictures of our special places. Maybe even find a window frame and frame the picture behind it as a beautiful work of art for our home and give yourself a room with a view.

Christmas Gift Ideas

Shopping for the person who has everything?  It isn't easy is it?

I may be a little biased here, but I don't think you can ever go wrong with a photograph. People will treasure a photograph long after they have lost, broken or thrown out everything else.

  • Gift certificate for a portrait session.
  • Gift certificate for a limited edition print.
  • Photographs of you and your family (This is the great thing about lifestyle portraiture.  These will be images that reflect who you are.)
  • Include family members in your portrait session.
  • Commission us to take a photograph of a special place for someone and purchase it as art for their home. This photograph may also be used to purchase their own personalized note cards from us.
  • Give the special woman in your life a Project Pink Session.

Believe it or not….these young ladies are not professional models! You would have thought we had picked the most beautiful girls for this project but these were just the three lovely ladies who walked through the door that day. Wonderfully Made Photography and Martha’s Beauty Salon partnered together with other businesses to do something special for these lovely ladies this year for Christmas. They were given so many wonderful things donated by businesses and individuals to let them know how beautiful and special they are on the inside and the outside.

Merry Christmas!

We will be out of the office until after the New Year and will return all e-mails and calls at that time.

Say It with Flowers

I would love to have an image like this with one of my sons. How precious! How many of us have had our little ones bring us flowers? We never forget such sweet moments as this. How much more special that we caught this with the camera to keep forever!

Elizabeth and I had such a wonderful time at this session! She was such a sweetie, and we had so much fun! I really think she was just meant to be a little model! Here is one of her peaking around my shoulder to wave and smile at her family who is standing farther back in the dunes.

A few more favorites….
